Roles/Responsibilities
- Manage and grow an established portfolio of customer accounts.
- Build strong, long-term relationships with contractors, customers, suppliers, and key decision-makers.
- Understand customers’ current and upcoming construction projects to identify opportunities for repeat business.
- Develop account plans focused on increasing sales, order frequency, and profitability.
- Identify, prospect, and convert new customers with strong long-term potential.
- Become a trusted commercial partner by understanding customer challenges and recommending appropriate products and solutions.
- Prepare quotations and manage opportunities through to order.
- Conduct customer site visits and surveys where required.
- Deliver product presentations and demonstrations.
- Negotiate commercial agreements while protecting margins and profitability.
- Work closely with estimating, sales support, and operations teams to ensure an excellent customer experience.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, sales pipelines, account information, and forecasts.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and new product developments.
- Take ownership of customer relationships and develop long-term partnerships rather than simply processing orders.
Qualifications
- Previous sales experience is not essential.
- A strong background within construction or a related industry is highly desirable.
- Experience could come from roles such as Assistant Site Manager, Site Supervisor, Assistant Project Manager, Estimator, Construction Buyer, Hire Desk Manager, Depot Manager, or another construction-related position.
- Good understanding of how construction projects operate.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Confidence dealing with customers, contractors, suppliers, and key decision-makers.
- Naturally commercial mindset with the ability to identify opportunities.
- Strong problem-solving and influencing skills.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Motivation to build a long-term career within account management and sales.
- Comfortable learning technical products and presenting solutions to customers.
- Previous CRM experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Particularly suited to someone who enjoys the relationship-building and commercial side of construction and wants to move away from predominantly site-based responsibilities.
