Regional Business Development Manager, Industrial Woodworking Machinery

Location: South East

Salary: £45,000 to £60,000 basic (depending on experience), uncapped commission, company vehicle, laptop, iPad and benefits.

The Opportunity

I’m recruiting on behalf of one of the UK’s longest-established suppliers of industrial woodworking machinery, a family-owned business with over 125 years of history and an excellent reputation for quality equipment, technical expertise and customer service.

As the business continues to grow, it is investing in a regional field sales structure for the first time. Rather than operating reactively from head office, the company is creating dedicated territories, giving experienced sales professionals the opportunity to develop long-term customer relationships while growing market share across their region.

This is an autonomous field-based role offering genuine ownership of your territory, with the support of an established technical, service and applications team behind you.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for developing business across your region managing a mix of existing customers, dormant accounts and new business opportunities.

The product portfolio includes premium industrial woodworking machinery, CNC machining centres and a range of associated services including planned maintenance, servicing and operator training.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing a regional sales strategy.
  • Managing and growing relationships with existing customers.
  • Re-engaging dormant accounts.
  • Identifying and converting new business opportunities.
  • Understanding customers’ manufacturing processes and recommending appropriate machinery solutions.
  • Working closely with technical and service colleagues to deliver successful projects.
  • Managing the sales process from initial enquiry through to installation and ongoing account development.
  • Representing the business professionally throughout your territory.

The Type of Person We’re Looking For

We’re interested in experienced field sales professionals who enjoy building long-term customer relationships rather than simply chasing short-term orders.

You’ll ideally have experience selling capital equipment or other technical products into manufacturing environments.

Experience within woodworking machinery would be advantageous, although candidates from wider industrial machinery or capital equipment sectors will also be considered.

You’ll likely demonstrate:

  • Experience managing your own sales territory.
  • A consultative approach to selling.
  • Strong account management and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to identify and develop new business opportunities.
  • Confidence selling technical or engineered solutions.
  • Good commercial awareness and self-motivation.
  • A willingness to travel throughout your territory.

Why This Role?

This isn’t simply a replacement sales position.

The business is investing in regional growth and wants its salespeople to become trusted advisers to customers rather than transactional sales representatives.

You’ll inherit an existing customer base while also having the freedom to develop new opportunities, supported by a respected brand, quality products and a strong aftersales team.

If you enjoy owning your territory, working autonomously and building long-term customer relationships, this represents an excellent opportunity to join a stable, growing business with genuine long-term prospects.
